Keith O's 4th Special Comment - Live Thread!
Thu Oct 05, 2006 at 05:14:01 PM PDT
Update:
For those who missed it, or if you just want to savor his words again,
the transcript is here
Keith Olberman is giving one of his Special Comments tonight. His show just started over here on the Eastern Seaboard, and in the introduction to his show he described his upcoming comment a such:
Mister Bush the lies have to stop!
Now that, to me, is something worth staying up for, and talking about!
Please join me on the flip do just that...
For Pete's Sake Markos! (on your Hardballing appearance)
Fri Aug 04, 2006 at 03:22:06 PM PDT
The one point you really SHOULD have corrected that walking talking point memo John Fund from the WP on was Leiberman opposing Samuel Alito! I mean how easy would it have been to say slowly and clearly:
"Yes John, Leiberman did vote against Alito, but he also voted FOR CLOTURE before that, effectively negating ANY power his vote against Alito could have had. That's why his constituents are so dissatisfied with Joe Leiberman."
Apologies and more after the jump...
Osama & July 4th? Get real!
Thu Jun 29, 2006 at 06:56:43 PM PDT
Breaking news on MSNBC. They have just got hold of an alleged tape recorded by Osama Bin Laden (the man who masterminded the NINE ELEVEN attacks in case you forgot) that praises Al Quaeda the organization, and Al Zarquawi specifically.
MSNBC's main headline and shout-bite? This tape has been timed to appear one (1) week before July 4th.

Forty to ONE! How can that be?
Tue Jan 24, 2006 at 08:15:14 PM PDT
So some nights I watch
Scarborough Country, it's on right after
LIVE & DIRECT w/ Rita Cosby! which, being after
Keith Olberman's Countdown, somehow always fandangles me into watching it, with it's garish colors and over-produced sound, I just fold like a pack of cards.
So anyway, Joe Scarborough, the man who quite possibly murdered his aide but got a TV show instead of a life sentence gets me watching his sparks.
Tonight he says Forty to ONE!, that being the ratio of Liberal to CONSERVATIVE teachers in the nations best schools, according to more than one survey.
What Joe Scarborough is too much of a pussy to admit after the fold...
The Bush Impeachment: Hard Data
Mon Dec 26, 2005 at 11:30:44 AM PDT
Now that the all consuming
"I" word has started to bubble up in the mainstream (or
traditional as Markos prefers ) media, I thought it might be interesting to see just how fast and dense this bubble is growing.
A couple of simple Google NewsTM searches later and we have a very interesting set of results...
Number of references to Bush and Impeachment appearing in Google NewsTM search results from:
November 1st to December 1st 2005 = 95
December 1st to December 26th = 907
As you can see that's a 955% increase in references to Bush's impending impeachment in just 26 days!
Not much more, but a very useful poll after the fold...
How my Fury turned to Hope.

I've often wondered who was worse: the Hannity's or the Colmes that help them play their game?
Well, I just watched the first 10 minutes of Hannity & Colmes by accident and although I still don't know the answer, an interesting process unfolded that I thought I should share.
It started with Colmes introducing Laura from Code Pink and I guess one of H&C's reporters who was complaining about Code Pink and Veterans for Peace's supportive Vigil outside Walter Reed Hospital.
Colmes took a vague stab at giving Laura a bit of support and a platform to defend herself against this dick H&C reporter, in fact let's just call him "Dick" for the sake of narrative, who couldn't even remember the names of people he claimed to have interviewed earlier that day!
All Dick seemed to be able to do was shout ignorantly.

The Extremist Agenda: Action Alert!
Sun May 15, 2005 at 04:49:59 PM PDT

This past Friday, Armando posted a front page story
The Extremist Agenda: The Judiciary on what exactly the extremist arm of the Republican Party, and their fundamentalist christian puppet-masters, want to do to the United States of America.
In it he referred to an article by Chris Bowers on MyDD, that was itself a reframe of a chilling summation of the Texas Republican Party's ultimate goals (and thus now the entire Republican Party's goals), written in June 2003 by Kevin Drum of The Washington Monthly.
Armando ended his peice:
And we fight. Whatever happens, we fight.
Chris ended his:
We might want to consider printing up a billion (yes, a billion) copies of this post, and distributing it every household in America a few times every year from now until October, 2008.
and Kevin ended his with:
It's our job to make sure everyone knows this.
So instead of just getting mad and having a beer, I decided to channel my anger into something more constructive.

BREAKING: Gannon checks into White House but never checks out!
Sun Apr 24, 2005 at 05:53:35 PM PDT
Raw Story have just posted a
breaking story on Jeff Gannon/Guckert's White House coming and going that beggars belief.
"I'd be worried if I was the White House and I knew that a reporter with a day pass never left," one White House reporter told RAW STORY. "I'd wonder, where is he hiding? It seems like a security risk."
It seems that our man Jeff made over 200 appearances over his two year White House adventure, 155 were for bona fide press conferences, but he also turned up on days when there were no press briefings, worse than that he sometimes checked in but never checked out!
Update [2005-4-24 21:20:45 by deafmetal]: Now with a poll! as requested by sara seattle
Update [2005-4-24 21:26:52 by deafmetal]: The records speak for themselves! Raw Print have put up the actual documents HERE, or you can read a transcript on the original story page.

The End of Conservatives - One of Their Own Speaks Out
Sun Jan 23, 2005 at 01:58:53 PM PDT
From
Outlook India this weekend:
In the ranks of the new conservatives, however, I see and experience much hate. It comes to me in violently worded, ignorant and irrational emails from self-professed conservatives who literally worship George Bush. Even Christians have fallen into idolatry. There appears to be a large number of Americans who are prepared to kill anyone for George Bush.
Dr. Paul Craig Roberts,
WSJ and
National Review alum and former
US Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy, writes about the death of
traditional conservatives and the rise of their replacements, the
delusional new conservatives.

OutlookIndia: Wickedly good writing!
Fri Dec 24, 2004 at 11:02:25 AM PDT
Short diary that's really more of a recommendation for all you media-junkies out there.
OutlookIndia.com is a website that describes itself as "more than just the news magazine from India...", and it certainly is.
Here is a bitingly snark sample from today's issue regarding the US military vs. Falujan insurgents (registration required sad to say):
There were three declared tactical objectives. The first was to either kill or capture the Jordanian born "terrorist" "Abu Musab al-Zarqawi" (if indeed he exists) and to "battle and destroy some 4000 to 5000 suspected fighters". The Americans also vowed to "liberate" the residents of Fallujah from "criminal elements" and to "secure Fallujah" for the January elections. Lastly, it appears an additional declared tactical/political objective of the American Military's task was to engage in a "fight of good versus evil". Additionally it appears (presumably per their intelligence reports) that the mission also was to "destroy" "Satan" since it appears that "he lives in Fallujah"
(Emphasis mine)
A bit more and a terribly exciting POLL after the fold...
Actively show your power right now!

And even better, it's really no hassle at all.
If you have a yahoo email account, or belong to a yahoo user group, cancel it right now and sign up with another free service, preferably google.
Hang on a minute... what is this, some kind of marketing ploy?!
No.
The reason why you should empower yourself through action... is after the break!
Lying About the Amount of Servicemen They've Murdered.
Sun Dec 12, 2004 at 11:35:31 AM PDT

Look at this picture. That's a dead US soldier in Falluja.
You haven't seen many pictures like this on the nightly news have you? Hurts like hell doesn't it?
Now think about the following:
The official DOD number of US soldiers wounded in Iraq is 8458.
The US Army's internal overseas newspaper Stars and Stripes reports that over 17,200 wounded troops have been treated at Landstuhl, the US military hospital in
Germany.
Update [2004-12-12 19:13:20 by deafmetal]: This site has an interesting chart showing a total of 13855 "US Army Evacuations from Iraq" along with 8150 wounded and 1279 dead, although not as high as teh "Stars and Stripes" figures, it's closer. They also pose some questions about the DoD released figures...
Update [2005-1-4 17:45:9 by deafmetal]: Changed title to reflect more accurately the content.
More outrage after the break...

Why isn't this man our President?
Mon Dec 06, 2004 at 07:38:26 PM PDT

Howard Dean is not the President of the United States because the majority of the party he represents are ineffective, spineless, un-principled, cowards.
People who, when they take the smallest step to the right, turn into people like this.

Spectatorship is an invitation to fear. Citizenship is how we fight the politics of fear
Wed Dec 01, 2004 at 11:22:02 PM PDT
-- Benjamin Barder
A quote from "Hijacking Catastrophe", originally broadcast on Link TV (?)*, it's a documentary that heartbreakingly lays out the crimes being commited right now by those who claim power over the American empire.
Think about the big red title to this post above.
What is citizenship, what does it mean to you?
What can we do to make our role as a citizen of a shared society mean something?
When I say shared, I mean that even across partisan boundries, we all share a belief in the constitution of the United States of America.
What can we do to uphold the implicit contract that citizenship contains, a contract between yourself and your fellow citizens.
Whatever it is that we can do, we are failing in that task.
